“My Story” Series

I took this series home for the Christmas Break.  Each book in the series is about a young girl in a specific time period and is written in diary form.  Included at the end are historical notes, a timeline, and reproductions of pictures/photographs/maps.    This series would appeal to readers of the “Royal Diaries” or “Dear Canada” series.

Blitz: A Wartime Girl’s Diary 1940-1941 – Vince Cross

Edie is living through the Blitz in London.  She is evacuated to Wales with her brother, but life there is in some ways harder than the life she left in London.  What will she do?

Bloody Tower: A Tudor Girl’s Diary 1553-1559 – Valerie Wilding

Tilly lives in the Tower of London with her family.  She lives through the ousting of Lady Jane Grey by Queen Mary and the imprisonment of Princess Elizabeth, whom she identifies with.  Will she ever get to meet the Princess?

The Great Plague: A London Girl’s Diary 1665-1666 – Pamela Oldfield

Alice loves living in London.  That is until the Great Plague hits and kills her beloved aunt.  Will she herself get sick?  What is she to do?  What happens to her family when the Great Fire hits in 1666?
